Paint correction is the machine polishing process that permanently removes swirl marks, light scratches and oxidation from your car's clear coat — rather than filling them in temporarily with wax. Victory Lap Detailing carries out mobile paint correction across Bournemouth from £330, priced by vehicle size.

What causes swirl marks?

Those fine spider-web scratches that appear under sunlight or a petrol-station light are almost always wash-induced. The usual culprits are automatic rollover car washes, dirty wash mitts, and drying with a rough towel — each drags grit across the clear coat.

Because they're physical scratches in the lacquer, no wax or polish-in-a-bottle removes them. They can only be filled (temporarily) or machine-polished out (permanently). That's what paint correction does.

How the process works

We start with a full decontamination wash so no grit remains on the surface. The paint is then machine polished with a dual-action polisher, using a compound and pad combination matched to your paint's hardness — softer Japanese clear coats and harder German ones behave very differently.

A single-stage correction (our Stage 1, from £330) removes the majority of light swirling and restores gloss. Deeper defects need a multi-stage approach — we'll tell you honestly what's achievable when we see the car in daylight.

Protect the work afterwards

Corrected paint is bare and unprotected. Without a sealant or coating, Bournemouth's coastal salt air and UV will begin dulling it again within months.

We finish every correction with wax or sealant as standard, and most customers upgrade to ceramic coating — years of protection that locks the corrected finish in place rather than months.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does paint correction cost in Bournemouth?
Stage 1 paint enhancement starts at £330 for a small car and rises with vehicle size — £370 medium, £410 large, £470 XL. Multi-stage correction on heavily swirled paint is quoted after inspection.
Will paint correction remove all scratches?
Not all. Machine polishing removes defects within the clear coat — swirl marks, light scratches, holograms and oxidation. If a scratch has gone through the clear coat to the base colour (your fingernail catches in it), it needs paint, not polishing. We'll always tell you honestly which category yours falls into.
How long does paint correction last?
The correction itself is permanent — the damaged clear coat has been levelled away. How long the finish stays looking that way depends on protection and washing. Sealed with wax it lasts months; with a ceramic coating and safe washing, years.
Single-stage or two-stage — which do I need?
Single-stage (Stage 1) suits most daily cars with light-to-moderate swirling and delivers a big visible improvement. Two-stage is for deeper defects where a cutting step is needed before refining. We assess your paint in daylight and recommend the honest option, not the expensive one.
Can you do paint correction at my home?
Yes — we're fully mobile across Bournemouth and bring our own power and lighting. We do need reasonable space around the car and, ideally, shelter or dry weather, as correction shouldn't be rushed in rain.
Is machine polishing safe for my paint?
In trained hands, yes. Machine polishing removes a few microns of clear coat — a car can typically be corrected several times over its life. The risk comes from inexperience and aggressive compounds. We match pad and compound to your specific paint and work conservatively.
